Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the role of student self-government in the process of forming active citizenship, and education in the values of the 21st century at Thomas Jefferson Second English Language High School, Sofia. Good practices from the work of the Student Council at the school and from the initiatives they carry out as an element of the student self-government policy are shared. The article reviews the emergence of the idea of self-governance over the years and the transformation it has undergone in view of the turbulent historical changes, digitalization and the imposition of a new information environment in the world.
