Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt to introduce the figure of one of the abbots of the Żagań Convent of Canons Regular, Paweł Lembergek from Żary, who in the literature is often referred to as Paweł of Lwówek or the iron abbot. Paweł, who ruled the Żagań convent in the 16th century, is a figure of particular importance for the history of the Żagań abbey. He was sent to study in Wittenberg, where he met Martin Luther and his religious views, which left their mark on him. The consequence of this was that Paul supported Lutheranism as abbot of the monastery. Paweł is an excellent example of how great an influence Protestant ideas had in Silesia, not only among the local popula- tion, but also among the local clergy. The reign of Abbot Paweł is a breakthrough moment, inscribed in the narrative of the monastery chronicle in the process of the religious decline of the Żagań convent.
