Summary/Abstract: On the basis of archival records, contemporary newspapers and relevant literature, this paper addresses the political biography of Dragutin Kovačević (1870-1942). His political path is described in chronological order, taking in his membership in the Croatian Peasant Party where he was vice-president from 1923 to 1929 and on the list of which he was elected as member of parliament and later as representative of the assembly. It addresses his co-option by the 6 January Dictatorship in 1930, during which period, he was vice-president of the Yugoslav National Party and the National Assembly and finally his experiences in the concentration camps of the Independent State of Croatia. His position in the Croatian Peasant Party and his reasons for adherence to the regime are examined.
