Summary/Abstract: The relevant study and interpretation of symbols must have as criteria, first and foremost, good knowledge of the religious phenomenon and syncretism, both pagan and Christian, a thorough understanding of the philosophical systems that were the basis of Christian teachings in the first centuries and, not least, of Romanian popular traditions. The manner in which the Romanian village has preserved the ancient elements of pre-Christian worship defines it as a separate world, with its own meanings and experiences. The Romanian peasant, with their mystical character, gave a spiritual connotation to each telluric or astral element that could influence their life and reduced the entire known universe, i.e. the complex structure of the divine creation, to their level of understanding.
