Summary/Abstract: In recent decades, democratic societies have faced both internal and external threats that have caused them to struggle. Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, the COVID-19 pandemic, and Russia’s interference in the Brexit vote and the U.S. elections. The world is not only entering a phase of conflicts and wars, but it is additionally on the verge of a new ideological confrontation. The non-democratic regimes are also capable of building strong and resilient economies and military potential sechanisms and institutions. The role of values and institutions we build today is critical. During times of war and crises such as pandemics, how can democratic values and principles be adapted? How should national governments and the international community navigate through these threats and changes? This article aims to address these important questions.
