Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the debate about emotions in the study of international relations. Traditional theories such as realism and liberalism are built upon fear or, conversely, empathy. However, these theories lack a systematic examination of emotions. Emotions influence actors both in world politics and on the domestic stage. The article explains why it is important to incorporate emotions into the research of various phenomena in international relations. It also offers readers an insight into the debate about how to investigate emotions not only of individuals but also of entire groups through changes in discursive dynamics.
