Summary/Abstract: : The article presents the vicissitudes of Professor Anna Przecławska’s life, showing how they influenced her scientific and didactic work, social commitment and attitude towards other people. Thus, reference was made to the period of happy childhood interrupted by the outbreak of World War II, scouting and underground activities, including service as a nurse in the Warsaw Uprising. These events meant that throughout her life she undertook tasks that went far beyond the requirements of everyday life. They also directed her research on topics related to the role of reading in the lives of young people, the world of young people’s values and trans- formations of culture in the context of upbringing problems. A. Przecławska also emphasized the need to reinterpret the concept of the educational environment in social pedagogy and the importance of serving people, which she considered a constant principle in pedagogy and in her life, changing the world in accordance with the competences she possessed.
