Summary/Abstract: The notion of equality is central to the protection of all human rights. Failure to grant „equality” of rights, without sufficient reason, is a failure to guarantee human rights. The preamble of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights marked the importance of equality by stating that: „recognition of the inherent dignity and equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family constitutes the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world”. Equality is not just a theoretical idea, because denying equal rights to people in practice has serious negative effects on people’s well-being.
