Summary/Abstract: n this text, the authors summarise the work carried out as part of modelling knowl- edge and insurance information. The authors present ontology in IT, that is a new structure used to gather and sort out information. Additionally, the article also indicates two crucial areas related to insurance modelling, namely representation of knowledge of legal regula- tions and the standardisation of the concept of risk. Both areas are very important for the correctness of information flow processes in insurance market companies. The theoretical review based on literature research helps present, in a synthetic way, the concept and start discussion on its possible applications for modelling insurance information by means of semantic models – in particular in the two areas mentioned above. Using ontology and starting operations on semantic models will contribute to gaining new possibilities related to gathering, processing and operations on information in insurance systems.
