Summary/Abstract: In May 2023, the Study Centre for National Reconciliation in Ljubljana (SCNR), in cooperation with the Pivka Military History Park, organised a scientific conference entitled The Year 1943 in Slovenia – Eighty Years Later. The primary aim of the conference was to shed light on the events of the crucial year 1943, which influenced the development of events in the last two years of the Second World War in Slovenia. The period of the Second World War in Slovenia is multifaceted and marked by occupation, violence, repression, resistance against the occupier, collaboration and civil war. The year 1943, when the storm of war had been raging on Slovenian territory for almost two years, was marked by several events which were the subject of the contributions to the scientific conference. The authors covered a wide range of topics, from the development of the partisan movement, the capitulation of Italy, the establishment of the Slovenian Home Guard, to the Allies' view of Yugoslav territory and the strategic position of the Balkan Peninsula in international terms.
