Summary/Abstract: Following the end of World War II, a summary census of the civilian population was conducted in Poland. This census took place in 1946 when numerous population resettlement movements were still ongoing due to changes in the country’s borders. It was only in 1950 that the demographic situation became stable enough to provide reliable data on the structure, size, and spatial distribution of the country’s inhabitants. The general census also helped determine the scale of wartime population losses. As of December 3, 1950, the population of Poland was 24,613,684. Urban population accounted for 39.0%, while rural population constituted 61.0%. In the Szczecin province, there were 529,295 people, with 55.9% living in urban areas and 44.1% in rural areas. The largest populations were found in the city of Szczecin (33.8% of the province’s residents), Stargard Szczeciński (9.1%), Nowogard (6.9%), Pyrzyce (6.8%), and Chojna (6.7%). According to the census results, 17.0% of the population in the Szczecin province were children under the age of 4. One in four individuals was under the age of 9, and more than half of the residents were 24 years old at most. In the considered province, the largest percentage of the working population was engaged in agriculture (45.1%). Those working in the “industry,” “transport and communication,” “trade,” and “construction” sections made up 38.6% of the economically active population. The remaining sections employed 16.2% of the active workforce.
