Summary/Abstract: In the past two decades, Iranian film has become firmly established on the international film scene and its most reputable film-makers Abbas Kiarostami, Mohsen Makh-malbaf and his daughter Samira, Majid Majidi, ci Jaf ar Panahi will always be welcome at international film festivals. Both the audiences and the critics are impressed by the simplicity and spiritual depth, beauty and emotionality, whereby the latter have been repetitively trying to answer the question what makes Iranian films so impressive. The answer may be sought in the cultural context of Iran, which boasts historic, political, religious, and aesthetic values. The paper has made an attempt to combine these circumstances and by employing cultural and anthropological perspective, to capture the developmental milestones and values of this remarkable artistic entity.
