Summary/Abstract: The most important encounter of the Sandomierz Rebellion - the battle of Guzow - attracted signifcant interest of the Apostolic See. The Papal nuncio, Francesco Simonetta, who, in the Summer of 1607 sojourned in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, dedicated a lot of attention to this battle. In three letters, he described the genesis and progress of the battle as well as the situation ensuing after the encounter. Despite the subjective attitude of the nuncio resulting from his attachment to the royal party, his report was truthful, which is confrmed both by historical sources and contemporary research. Simonetta's description of the battle confrms that Rome was interested in events taking place in Poland at the time of the Sandomierz Rebellion and thus it sheds alternative light upon the battle.
