Experimental Examination of Sorption of Hazardous Chemical with Sorption Materials

Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the sorption of selected hazardous chemicals by technical and improvised sorbents which in practice are often used in the leakage of the chemical. In the experiments the changes in temperature and the pH of the sorbents, the hydrophobicity or hydrophilicity of the sorbent as well as the course of the sorption of hazardous chemical were monitored. The results of the experiments were analyzed and the percentage of hazardous chemical was determined from its total quantity as well as the percent binding of hazardous chemical to the pure sorbent. This procedure makes it possible to verify the effectiveness of the sorption materials.
