Summary/Abstract: The poetic opus of the Dubrovnik humanist Damjan Beneša (1476–1539) is characterized by a pronounced interest in contemporary political and religious upheaval in Europe and efforts to stress the importance of Christian unity in the dramatic circumstances of Ottoman conquests in the first half of the sixteenth century. His engagement with this question is confirmed by the until recently unknown letters that, in 1534, he sent to European monarchs: Ferdinand I, Charles V an Francis I. In this essay I publish these letters in their Latin original and Croatian translation, and attempt to place them in the context of Beneša’s overall humanistic engagement.
