Summary/Abstract: In the 21st century, we are witnessing a paradoxical war, two Slavic peoples, of the same faith, with profound common identity similarities, face each other on the battlefield, following a political mistake. Based on its imperial ambition, the Russian Federation does not admit the reality that Ukraine has consciously chosen the European path and integration into NATO, that the choice belongs to a sovereign and independent state, which cannot shape its wishes according to its neighbor’s wishes. The Russian Federation desires to reform relations with Ukraine, obtaining if not an ally, then at least a neutral country. This mistake of Russia formed between two states a chasm that will last for centuries. On the other hand, Ukraine suffers because it did not learn the Transnistrian lesson at the right time, about the creation of ghost states, finding itself in a similar situation, only on a larger scale. It is clear: war is not a solution, but who and how will bring peace no one knows. Time will show what needs to be done.In this study, the theme of the war in Ukraine is addressed, which changed the socio-political reality at the regional, and global levels. For the Republic of Moldova, for the security of the population and state institutions, war is a great danger, a threat that does not allow people to organize and monitor their own lives. In this context, the study has practical significance, as it contributes to the understanding of the phenomenon.
