Origin of Higher Education and Establishment of Faculty of Management in Town of Jindřichův Hradec

Summary/Abstract: At the beginning of the 90s of the 20th century universities were transformed and founded primarily on the foundations of the already functioning higher education institutions. The presented paper deals with institutional and personnel circumstances related to the establishment of a higher education institution in a district town in South Bohemia, in the town of Jindřichův Hradec. The paper describes the development and a search for a content orientation of the future faculty and – at the same time - a meaningful utilization of one of the most modern buildings at that time, the former headquarters of the District Committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia in Jindřichův Hradec. The paper involves the process of establishing a higher education institution in Jindřichův Hradec and provides some documentary evidence for its foundation and the beginnings of teaching at the Faculty of Management, which was established first under the patronage of the University of South Bohemia and then became a part of University of Economics, Prague.
