Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the questions of the influence of cultural codes as a means of categorization and evaluation in the sphere of expression and sense aspects of proverbs in Russian, English and Czech. It results from the detailed analysis of the proverbs on the truth and the lies in the languages mentioned above that there are several differences among these languages. Based on the relation of the reference type of the proverbs and the cultural code of the appropriate language, we can assume that ethical rules prevail in the Russian proverbs, and partially in the Czech proverbs while the utilitary rules prevail in the English proverbs.
