Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to research the interactive link between the current debt crisis in the region of southern Europe and its social systems. The first part of the paper devotes to the status of indebtedness and the risk of insolvency in selected countries, the second part is to analyze the situation of social system burden in the context of current crisis. The last part relates aspects of indebtedness to social sector status and through their interaction tries to diagnose the most pending risks resulted from elaborated analyses.
