Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to reflect the investment related changes arising from the Lisbon Treaty as well as changes strengthening the competencies of the European Commission. The European Union has created a new model of direct investment with regard to the common trade policy of the EU and to the system of controlling the compliance of bilateral investment agreements concluded by the member states with the third countries, with the relevant legal regulation of the EU, which will have an impact on the treaty practice. The paper in its substance introduces the goals of European international investment policy, protection of foreign investment in the territory of the Slovak Republic, and the forms of state aid and investment incentives provided from public sources to foreign investors.
