Summary/Abstract: Road infrastructure plays a vital role in influencing the overall level of economy within the country and its regions. The current state of the Slovak road infrastruture fails to keep up with the regional development requirements in terms of enhancing competitiveness, the elimination of regional disparities and building an efficient transport infrastructure linked to international transport corridors. The implementation of effective means and tools in the sphere of the national regional policy as well as the means of the guiding principles of solidarity and commonality of the European Union can serve as an effective aid in addressing and tackling the issues related to the regional development. Hence, the issue of building the transport infrastructure and road infrastrucure as its sub-category has become the highest priority of the current government of the Slovak Republic.
