Summary/Abstract: Dialogue on religious issues is inevitable in society. Religion is part of the fabric of society, and the way society is divided or united is also related to how we manage to communicate, even if we have different religious beliefs. The history of human societies has been marked by religious conflict, and the special place of religion in the fabric of society has begun to erode over time. Religious extremism caused by narrow religious beliefs is a disservice to religion. Reflective thinking and personal identity should be functional mechanisms within any religion. In their absence, we witness acts of religious violence that make it necessary to change our perspectives on the role of religion in society. The perspective that Miroslav Volf proposes, which relates to two of the important dimensions of relationship - respect and tolerance - can help us to be open to religious dialogue, but also to understand that we live in a world in which we are constantly invited to get to know ‘the other’.
