Summary/Abstract: Brownfields and their recovery are in developed countries considered as a complex process of changes throughout the whole society and country. The program covers not only the variety of social, economical and ecological aspects, but also the general appearance and the area management. For the successful restoration of the damaged landscape it is essential to use methods and technologies able to cover the whole problem. It is important to emphasize that the particular methods and instruments involved in the brownfield regeneration are being used for the different territorial areas, and therefore they must be assessed in the global sense. The main goal of the sociological inquiry is to determine the perception of the brownfields in the Region of South Bohemia. The investigation was carried out through the management interviews and the standardized questionnaire run in the four groups of respondents. The results show different perceptions of the brownfields as an investment opportunity within the group of business entities, local residents or selected NGOs. Nevertheless, for all inquired groups the brownfields are considered as a negative element of the region.
