Summary/Abstract: The paper is focused on regional administration issues, which we consider as an integral part of territorial administration of the Slovak Republic. Regarding to specific historical, cultural and geopolitical development in the Central European area, central-local relations organisation draw our attention. Although we could register attempts to disvalue self-governments in comparison with national or supranational levels of governing, these are mostly based on a very limited articulation and do not refer to even theoretically defined role of the hierarchical emplacement of self-governments in political systems of the democratic countries, characterized by a high level of heterogeneity and autonomy. Therefore a regional self-government should fulfil its main aim only within the environment, based on open and democratic central government policy and civic culture.
