Summary/Abstract: The contribution is based on the outcomes of the research project surveying the integration of the trade unions and the representation of the employees’ and employers’ interests from the new EU member states (the Slovak Republic, the Czech Republic and Poland) at the EU-level and at the same time it analyses the situation in the Slovak Republic (selected aspects). The main method of the data and information obtaining was the use of questionnaires and interviews with the actors of the social dialogue at the national- and EU-level as well as with the representatives of the relevant European institutions (such as ECOSOC and European Parliament). The representatives of the Slovak trade unions perceive the EU as their model and shelter - the EU strengthens not just their legitimacy as an actor (social partner), but legitimizes also the trade unions’ policy interconnected with the essence and principle of the European social model. Slovak employers and entrepreneurs representatives’ attitude towards the EU influence and especially in relation to the possibility of the increase of the EU structures influence on the member states’ policy is rather reserved.
