Realization of redistributive function by the state with the use of pension scheme

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to determine whether by the pension scheme the state realizes redistributive function, how it works and what instruments are used in this field. Due to the coexistence of the old and new pension scheme in Poland, the article indicates the direction of redistribution by both of them. This redistribution takes place among beneficiaries, i.e. among men and women or among employed and retired people. Because of the imperfections of the formulas used for calculating the benefits according to the old rules, it can be concluded that the idea of redistributing funds from the richer to the poorer, is disturbed in many cases, mainly due to the existence of many privileged groups and possibility of retiring before achieving the statutory age.
