Summary/Abstract: Immanuel Kant is not usually considered as an ideologue of a concept of tolerance. The paper argues that an idea of moral tolerance is implicit in the practical philosophy of Kant. An attempt is made at explicating this concept of tolerance. The argument is based on an analysis of the basics of morality and the hierarchy of duties. It is pointed out that the demand of tolerance is implied in the concept of practical reason, as defined by Kant. The principle of the autonomy of will, the idea of a human being as an end in itself and the categorical imperative associated with it, all together justify the duty of respecting oneself and other persons.
