Aspects of metamorphosis in the surrealistic collage animated films of Stacey Steers

Summary/Abstract: Collage art is inherently connected with the process of transformation and metamorpho-sis, remodeling the perception of space, time, form and meaning. Surrealism used collage as a key tool to transfigure our awareness of reality through the employment of juxtaposed heterogeneous elements, torn from their original context to create a whole new bizarre reality. The surrealistic collage animated films of Stacey Steers contain an abundance of metamorphoses with different aspects of meaning. In this research I aim to identify some of those aspects while at the same time emphasize the important role of those films as an appeal for social change.
