Summary/Abstract: Agencies for supported employment offer to clients with mental disabilities a package of social services aimed at the support of a pupil with special educational needs during the transition from school to employment. The extent and types of the methods used by social workers are not known. Therefore the aim of the following work is to make an inventory of methods of social work with a client and to survey the extent of services offered to pupils with special educational needs. All the providers of supported employment in the Czech Republic were addressed via telephone interview and an investigation was made, if they offer social services to pupils with special educational needs even in the time of their school attendance, that means in the time of preparation for their future profession. Only 12 from 43 agencies for providing supported employment have been offering transitiv programmes to their clients. With these agencies a half-structured interview with the topic of transition programmes was made. Information gained from these interviews was completed with secondary analysis of data acquired from materials of these organizations. The research showed that social workers are not bound by any particular methodics concerning putting transition programs into practice. The term „transition programme“ embodies a wide range of activities - dealing with pupils themselves as well as with their potential employers, parents and schools. The activities and methods used in transition programme are based only on the sociel worker´s knowledge and previous experience. The most frequent methods are interview and group counselling. The frequency of these varies in regions as well as case to case.
