Summary/Abstract: The Ilinden Uprising is one of the most significant historical events in all of Macedonia’s history, and the date is a national holiday. Ilinden is of paramount importance for the Macedonian cultural and historical heritage. The Ilinden Uprising, and the participation in it, is remembered to this day; in fact, they are perceived as true national icons, living out the culmination of all their predecessors’ (from the 19th century) struggles and achievements. This bright and important historical moment is described in numerous folk songs and literary works. In this paper we will point out only a few, such as novels Mara by Stojan Hristov, Or Death by Simon Drakul, in dramas The Spirit of Freedom by Vojdan Chernodrinski, Ilinden by Nikola Kirov Majski, The Bloody Stone by Vasil Iljoski, as well as the folk songs and poems from the poetry of Arseni Jovkov, Gane Todorovski, Blazhe Koneski. In Macedonian literary works the authors, both collective and individual, are focused on descriptions of the Ilinden revolutionaries, their emotional and psychological experiences, and their choice between life and death, all for Macedonia, the Macedonian people and its freedom. Because of that, for 120 years, the Macedonian people incorporated this event - the Ilinden Uprising into their collective memory – “Our name is Ilinden. And remember this”.
