Summary/Abstract: The study concerns the characteristics of the inner political situation in the Slovak Republic and certain statements of coalition as well as opposition parties on the proposed constitution of European Union. The author is focusing on the fact that the Slovak Republic became not only the object but also the subject of international relations after becoming a member of the European Union, mainly he is speaking about the participation of the Slovak Republic in the Convent and on negotiating the proposed European Union Constitution. It is possible to say that the Slovak Republic has never in history had such a strong role in influencing the future of Europe. The statement of the government of the Slovak Republic commenting the European Commission and the voting system based on competent majority, is very important. Further, some political demands are mentioned that were raised by certain political circles. Mainly the statement of the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) is discussed in detail. This political party does not agree with the text of the European Union Constitution. They state that the Euro-constitution shows some signs of a super state, that it changes the character of the union and weakens the position of smaller member states. They insist on deleting the Charter of basic rights from the constitution. In the case of voting in the parliament, KDH will vote against. In the case of a plebiscite they will open the discussion for lowering the level of minimum votes. The skeptic position of the KDH is complicating the relations in the coalition and makes a good basis for destabilizing the domestic political scene.
