Tell Me a Story! – Feature Writing in the Academic Practical Training in Journalism

Summary/Abstract: Academic education in journalism creates an idea of it as serious, objective and even dry in rendering the facts. “Hard” news has been replaced by their more popular brother – the feature, which requires the reporter to immerse herself in the story she tells. The lack of definition for the genre allows a certain freedom in the writing and application of different journalistic methods in the process of its making. This could be the reason for the feature’s “invasion” in all types of media, even though it is not considered typical news. By applying the method of 𝑐𝑎𝑠𝑒 𝑠𝑡𝑢𝑑𝑦, the author tries to check how effective the practical feature education is and what is the role it plays for young journalists in acquiring skills for field work and storytelling.
