Summary/Abstract: Eugen Negrici’s book, The Systematics of Poetry, published in 1988, proposes an overarching interpretative pattern of poetry. His theory was often neglected as it illustrates a direction of criticism that is not very well represented in the Romanian literary history, that of the scientific objective criticism. Such a view and perspective might prove useful in analysing unresolved literary debates regarding the 80s generation, as well as certain phenomena of contemporary poetry, which seems to suffer from inconsistent critical verdicts and a confusing style.
