Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to investigate the existing Judeo-Spanish ethnonyms with the original meaning of ‘Polish’ and the semantic changes that they have undergone. We focus especially on the lexeme lehli (etymologically derived from Lehistan, that is, the denomination of Poland in Ottoman Turkish), which now is used mainly to designate Ashkenazi Jew. We contrast the lexicographical information with real usage examples and opinions of Ladino native speakers.
