Summary/Abstract: During the Tsarist period, Bessarabia, the Church, and its people were left without their native language, without worship books and divine services to be conducted according to the understanding of the inhabitants of this land. The one hundred years of slavery were a real nightmare for the Romanian people of Bessarabia. The clergy showed their enthusiasm which led to national revival and emancipation movements, starting with 1905. Important political conditions emerged for the restoration of national rights, the organization of diocesan congresses, the cultural activities of the “Nativity of Christ” brotherhood, the reopening of the diocesan typography of Chisinau, and the publishing of the magazine “Luminătorul”.
