Summary/Abstract: In recent decades, alongside the entire Christian and secular pedagogy, fundamental details regarding the stages of education, methods, principles and specifi cities of each of them are offered by frontier sciences, one of them being epigenetics. One of the myths that epigenetics debunks is that infants, at the moment of birth, are like a „tabula rasa”, without any knowledge, acting instinctively. They acquire this knowledge later through education. It is indeed true that in human life, culture, instruction and education play an essential role. However, research and discoveries from contemporary sciences, some obtained through observation and refl ection, others through ultraperforming functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), undoubtedly speak about an education before education, that is, an education before being enrolled in a training system: kindergarten, school, and even the education received in the family, an “education in utero.” Medicine recommends pregnant mothers a healthy diet, rest, emotional balance, a calm and peaceful atmosphere. Venerable Paisios the Athonite recommends abstinence from physical relations between spouses during pregnancy, spiritual readings, prayer, frequent confession and communion, which provide physical and spiritual nourishment, both for the mother and the child. The new discoveries in the fi eld of epigenetics show that the embryo or future child is infl uenced in its development by much more than just the nutrients in the mother’s blood. Maternal blood also contains a wide variety of informational molecules., Alongside the importance of the “education in utero,” the same specialists also speak about the programming or “post utero” education of children, which takes place between 2 and 6-7 years old.
