Summary/Abstract: The beginning of the Austro-Hungarian rule was also the beginning of more serious scientific research into the past of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Although the new government had a political interest in numerous cultural undertakings, that political aspect was overemphasized in the criticisms of them and taken out of the context of the time and especially what was done in the neighborhood in the field of culture. In addition, the positive contribution to cultural heritage preservation and general research of Bosnia and Herzegovina is something that critics have largely ignored. Through the analysis of literary criticism, created as a review of certain publishing ventures, and historiography, which dealt with the cultural history of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the Austro-Hungarian rule, this paper tries to make a contribution to understanding the motives for criticizing the Austro-Hungarian cultural policy.
