Summary/Abstract: Energy security is a dynamic phenomenon. Its understanding depends on the specificity of security policy entities and on relations in the international energy market. Access to energy resources is an existential need for every state and non-sovereign entity. Energy security results not only from objective economic reasons related to the principles of the free market but also from political and geostrategic issues. This study focuses on the epistemological approach and takes into account the issue of energy security as an area of international security research. Thus, the subject of this article is the essence and specificity of energy security and its determinants. The presented approach to the research problem shows that the perception of security is evolving both in the subjective and objective dimension. The meaning of the concept of security is no longer limited to the activities of states in the military field. The combination of security and energy creates a new quality for security studies.
