Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this study is to analyze and determine - as precisely and objectively as possible - whether and how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected epidemiology of suicide in Poland. In addition to the pandemic itself, another major factor was forced or recommended self-isolation, with about half of the world's population confined to their homes. This forced isolation, initially promoted as 'social distancing', has led to a reduction in contacts and a weakening of social bonds. The study takes into account the results of the latest research and statistics from the National Police Information System. The introduction to the article is the analysis of general information on the epidemiology of suicide and its determinants. The study discusses social and legal effects of the epidemic and the impact of the epidemic on suicidal behavior rates. Statistical data entered into the National Police Information System via the KSIP-10 form were used as part of the investigations. The aim of this paper is also to determine the status of the phenomenon of suicide under Polish law. So far, not much attention has been paid to this problem. Hence, there is a need to address this issue. The answer to the question whether the issue of suicide is important enough to devote more studies to it should be affirmative. The author of this study hopes that the article will inspire the scientific community to put forward new hypotheses and discover new facts. On the one hand, chronically ill patients, elderly people and economically disabled people were deprived of support and care structures, receiving help only in terms of their basic needs (e.g. distribution of food and medicines, emergency medical consultation). On the other hand, stress levels and domestic conflicts increased as families were forced to interact in the same space 24 hours a day. In many cases, a complete disturbance of the harmony of life and its lower quality were observed.
