Summary/Abstract: The document is a historical article about the American preparations for a possible war with the Soviet Union in the aftermath of the communist coup in Czechoslovakia in 1948. The article focuses on the role of Blahoslav Hrubý, a former American intelligence officer and evangelical pastor, who was sent back to Czechoslovakia to establish a network of agents with radio transmitters, ready to operate in case of a Soviet invasion. The article presents a previously unknown report by Hrubý, written after his return to the US in 1949, which provides a comprehensive overview of his intelligence activities, contacts, and challenges in Czechoslovakia. The article also compares Hrubý's report with archival sources from the Czechoslovak security services, and evaluates its relevance, accuracy, and limitations for the historical reconstruction of the first phase of the intelligence rivalry of the Cold War.
