Summary/Abstract: The paper points out the role of language in the functioning of pre-school children. It presents an outline of neurotypical and delayed speech development as well as the diagnostic basis of the disorder called Developmental Language Disorder, whose fundamental symptoms are language deficits. The author refers to the latest research on cognitive functions, both verbal and non-verbal, emphasizing their influence on the child’s emotional and social development.
