Summary/Abstract: Criminal profiling has recently become increasingly important. It becomes an indispensable part of social awareness, mainly thanks to the fourth power, which very often uses the media nature of criminal cases. However, the reality regarding the effectiveness of profiling differs from the imagination of many members of Polish society, including students or university graduates starting their professional career. Criminal profiling still arouses numerous controversies, in particular in terms of its suitability for the needs of law enforcement or judicial authorities. The article aims to present the person of a criminal profiler on three levels – skills and qualifications necessary to prepare a criminal and victim profile, the real demand for criminal profilers on the labor market, as well as the controversy surrounding the usefulness of profiling. In the summary, postulates regarding the unification of forms of education of future profilers will be presented and the introduction of a statutory regulation covering criminal profiling itself.
