Summary/Abstract: Often unilaterally approached, the relationships between religion and political power, especially those between religion and national identity, need to be unbiasedly re-examined, on account of existing textual evidence. This paper is a plea for revisiting the respective relationships from the viewpoint of the socio-historical and literary-cultural effects that were brought about by the progressive conservatory wing of “Junimea” society, mostly owing to Eminescu’s critical and philosophical spirit, which succeeded in setting itself free from the dogmatic and doctrinal impositions.
