Summary/Abstract: The Czechoslovak Hunting Union continuously carried on in the activities of the Czechoslovak Hunting Unity, established in 1923 as a unified hunting organisation. After 1945, an Act Nr. 225/1947 Coll., a Hunting Act, was issued that unified the right to hunt on the whole territory of the republic. The Act favoured not only the economic aspect, but also the cultural one. The right to hunt was as before linked to the ownership of the hunting grounds. The political changes in 1948–1951 excluded individuals from tenancy of hunting grounds, and the right to conclude the tenancy contracts was given only to “popular hunting societies”. In 1961, a new Hunting Act Nr. 23/1962 Coll. was approved that separated the right to hunt and the ownership of hunting grounds. The right belonged to organisations (state forest administration, state estates, and agricultural cooperatives) that could or had to cede this right, against payment, to actual users, i. e. only to hunting associations. In 1961, the Czechoslovak Hunting Unity merged with the Slovakian Union of Hunting and Game Keeping associations and the name of the central institution was changed to Czechoslovak Hunting Union. As a consequence of state federalisation in 1969, the activities of Czechoslovak Hunting Union were halted and the Czech Hunting Union was established. In 1970, the Federal Committee of Hunting Unions in Czechoslovak Socialist Republic was established as a joint coordination and advisory board of the Czech Hunting Union and Slovak Hunting Union. According to the new Hunting Act Nr. 270/1992 Coll., the Czech Hunting Union became a voluntary organisation and was deprived of its participation in control over hunting. The hunting associations, according to the Free Association Act Nr. 83/1990 Coll., became independent legal subjects. In 1992, the name of the Czech Hunting Union was changed to the Czech-Moravian Hunting Unity.
