Summary/Abstract: This paper focuses on the case of three novels written in Spain at the beginning of the 1960s which were banned by the Francoist censorship because they raised the problematic return of those defeated in the war to their places of origin. Th ese novels reveal the immorality on which Franco’s society was based and the impossibility of reconciliation under the dominant system. Th e ban on these works is framed in a context of increasing censorship and the end of the model of objectivist literature of social realism. Th e three texts, the censorship fi les and their dissemination circumstances are examined and compared in this article. It is concluded that censorship meant an eff ective barrier to prevent Spanish society from being aware of the social and political contradictions of the system.
