Summary/Abstract: The article offers an analysis of the motif of the journey in Dina Rubina’s story High Water of the Venetians. The aim of the article is to show various ways of presenting this motif and its functions in the work. The main research method is text analysis. Travelling is shown here in several ways. For the heroine, it is not only an interesting tourist trip, a journey into the space of culture, but also an escape from the difficult life situation in which she found herself. A stay in Venice can be called a sentimental journey, which involves the heroine’s feelings, emotions, and memories. Events long past, people once met and traces of the national and familial past make her trip a journey into the past. The motive of death also plays an important role in the text. The heroine tries to become familiar with the thought of death and approach it without existential anxiety.
