Summary/Abstract: Too little known and even less understood in its historical, social and theological context, the Syro-Eastern Church nevertheless had a major role, over the centuries, in the spread of Christianity in Asia. At the same time, its specific theological tradition, represented, among others, by writers such as Ephrem and Isaac, enriched the patristic treasury with works of inestimable importance for the expression of spiritual experience. Through this study, the reader is introduced to the complex uni-verse of this Church: the names by which it is known, its apostolic beginnings, the hostile historical context that led to the isolation of the Syro-Eastern Church from the rest of Christendom. The exposition of the political and ecclesiastical events of the 4th-5th centuries and the Christological turmoil that led to schisms and anathemas offer an overall vision, necessary to avoid repeating the polarizations of the past.
