Summary/Abstract: The article is an analysis of the book O Niepodległą. Kierunek północno-wschodni (1920)[For Independent. The North-Eastern Direction (1920)], published under the editorship ofDiana Maksimiuk (Białystok – Warsaw 2022) as part of the project “My Independence” (forthe centenary of regaining independence) carried out between 1918 and 1922. The bookcontains eleven dissertations and an extensive introduction prepared by the editor of thework. It depicts the events of more than a century ago, when the nations neighbouring Russiatried to strike out for independence.
