Summary/Abstract: This article examines the Church’s teaching on the associations of the lay faithful from the perspective of criteria of ecclesiality. First, documents of a universal scope are discussed: Evangelii nuntiandi by Paul VI, Christifideles laici by John Paul II and Iuvenescit Ecclesia, a letter of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Following that is a detailed presentation of a document by the Commission for the Doctrine of the Faith of the Polish Bishops’ Conference developed in 2022, Kryteria eklezjalności wspólnot katolickich (Criteria of ecclesiality of Catholic communities), from which the elements for the local situation can be read, through concrete examples of the practices undertaken.
