Summary/Abstract: The Nord Stream 2 project has become a stumbling block for US-German relations. Activities of the Trump administration (USA), including direct pressure on Germany to stop the project, which Germany actively supported, forced this topic to the top of the agenda of bilateral relations. Since the end of 2019, the issue of the Nord Stream 2 construction has been one of the central reasons for the confrontation. Joseph Biden’s victory in the presidential elections in 2020 opened the way for a comprehensive restoration of US-German relations, whereby among the preconditions was conclusion of a compromise regarding the completion of Nord Stream 2. Agreement between the USA and Germany from July 2021, based on mutual concessions, ensured the completion of Nord Stream 2, without the activation of US sanctions, while Germany has committed to taking a series of measures to address challenges and risks that Nord Stream 2 poses.
